What You Will Learn:

Participants will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of the P&C industry and statutory accounting concepts. Over the course of this three-and-a-half-day basic seminar, participants will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to prepare the Annual Statement as we address virtually every page, exhibit and schedule. Class discussion will center on a completed P&C Annual Statement.

The Property and Casualty Annual Statement Handbook will be provided as the text for this course. Participants will also receive electronic access to the Handbook.

  • Statutory accounting framework
  • NAIC Annual Statement structure
  • Accounting and reporting for premiums, losses and expenses
  • Investment valuations, Schedule D and other investment schedules
  • Reinsurance forms, uses, accounting and Schedule F
  • Reserves and Schedule P
  • Balance Sheet, Statement of Income, and Capital and Surplus Account
  • Cash Flow statement
  • Notes to Financial Statements
  • Remaining pages in the Annual Statement and miscellaneous filings
  • Highlights of changes in reporting requirements

Prerequisites:

No advance preparation or prerequisite is required for this comprehensive seminar.

Class Times:

Class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. except on the last seminar day which adjourns at 12:15 p.m.
