What you will learn:

Participants will develop an understanding of the purposes, contents and interrelationships of the many pages, exhibits, and schedules in the Life and Accident & Health Annual Statement (Blue Book). This seminar is ideal for those who need to know what is in the Annual Statement and how the various parts interrelate.

  • Assets and the investment schedules and exhibits
  • Interest maintenance and asset valuation reserves
  • Life insurance reserves and liabilities
  • Introduction to reinsurance
  • Operating statements
  • Supporting information and notes
  • Separate accounts
  • Risk-based capital

Who Should Attend:

Accountants, auditors, actuaries, financial executives and staff, regulators and others who contribute to, review, or use the statutory Annual Statement and wish to understand how it works.

Prerequisites:

No advance preparation or prerequisite is required for this basic level seminar. Those who are responsible for the preparation or review of all or a significant portion of the Annual Statement should consider the Annual Statement Preparation Workshop which devotes significantly more time to accounting theory and preparation issues, rather than this seminar.

Class Times:

Class begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. on the first day and at 3:00 p.m. on the second day.
