Statutory Financial Analysis
What you will learn:
Participants will learn how to interpret and analyze information in the Statutory Annual Statement to evaluate a life insurer’s financial condition, exposure to critical business risks, and operating performance. Many analytical ratios and industry benchmarks used by regulators, rating agencies and industry analysts will be discussed. Participants come away with the conceptual and practical tools necessary to intelligently evaluate a life insurer’s financial condition, operating performance, and exposure to critical business risks. Participants also receive an analytical spreadsheet which will enable them to apply the analytical tools and ratios taught in the seminar to Annual Statement data of any life insurer they wish to analyze.

- Survey of analytical information available from the Annual Statement
- Analytical measures used by regulators, rating agencies and buyers/investors
- Assessing the company’s overall financial condition and evaluating its performance
- Analyzing insurance and investment operations
- Reviewing asset quality and risk exposures
- Assessing capital adequacy
- Interpreting cash flow statements and assessing liquidity
- Assessing the impact of affiliate relationships
- Appraisals of company value
Who Should Attend:
Accountants, actuaries, financial analysts, business managers, regulatory personnel and others who want to be able to effectively utilize the vast amount of information provided in the Annual Statement.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with statutory accounting concepts and the organization of the Annual Statement would be helpful. Participants desiring to obtain this familiarity with statutory accounting concepts and the Annual Statement are encouraged to attend the Statutory Financial Reporting seminar conveniently scheduled to precede this class. No advance preparation is required for this intermediate level seminar.
